Here are the top three stories in Boise today:
- Boise residents and visitors eagerly await the start of the summer float season on the Boise River, but uncertainty looms due to unpredictable weather conditions. Boise Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with Float The Boise partner agencies, cannot set a definite opening date due to potential hazards like fallen trees and branches caused by recent heavy rainfalls. Officials emphasize that the river's current conditions are unsafe and advise against floating until it is deemed safe. Updates can be found here. (Idaho 6 News)
- After a lengthy process of public testimony and years of work, the Boise City Council unanimously approved a new zoning code. This extensive 611-page document replaces the outdated 60-year-old code and introduces changes in building regulations, density, and approval processes. The new code aims to increase housing diversity, affordability, and walkability, while also addressing concerns such as parking requirements and environmental sustainability. (Boise Dev)
- A 2.1 magnitude earthquake struck Ada County yesterday about 103 miles from Jordan Craters. There were zero public reports and its reported the shaking was minimal. If you felt this earthquake, reports can be made here. (Volcano Discovery)
