Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- A Boise High School student will soon take his seat on the board setting policy in his high school. IdahoEdNews's Kevin Richert reports Shiva Rajbhandari, a recent 18-year-old senior at Boise High School, joined four incumbents in winning a seat on the Boise School Board. Although voter turnout for the Tuesday election was higher than 2020, only 19,944 voters turned in ballots for the election. Eighteen candidates originally submitted paperwork for the election with five of those dropping out early. Rajbhandari will join the four incumbents in a swearing in ceremony on Monday. (Idaho EdNews)
- Here is a record we can stop anytime soon. KIVI-TV's Scott Dorval announced Boise eclipsed 100 degrees for the 26th time this summer Tuesday. The old record of 20 days was set in 2003. Thursday is expected to be only in the mid-80s and the weekend looks doubtful to continue setting the 100-degree record for the year. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
- If you are good at solving problems, consider participating in Boise Entrepreneur Week. Boise Patch and Boise State University announce the third annual Hacking for Homebuilding and second annual Cybersecurity Entrepreneur Challenge reverse pitch competitions. This is a statewide competition in which industry partners identify challenges they face on a daily basis and pose these as problem statements. Participants select a problem to solve and work closely with Venture College staff, a community of mentors and industry leaders to propose a solution in the form of a new venture. Over $40,000 in cash prizes will be available. (Boise Patch)
- On your next birthday, you may be very busy. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart provides you 30 places in Boise that will help you celebrate your special day with freebies. Be warned, you could be very full after free pizza, free Cotton Candy Lava Cake, free coffee, and a free "bundtlet."(107.9 LITE FM)
- If your upcoming plans include attending the Boise Pride Festival, you will see added security, according to KTVB-TV's Andrew Baertlein. Organizers of the event state the recent arrest of 31 Patriot Front members at the North Idaho Pride Alliance event in June precipitated the increased need for both private security and Boise Police Department (BPD) and Idaho State Police monitoring events throughout the weekend.
