- A former Army Green Beret from Boise is believed to have been killed in a blast in Ukraine while training civilian volunteers. Nick Maimer was providing humanitarian assistance to help the fight in eastern Ukraine when a Russian artillery shell destroyed a building where he was stationed. On Tuesday, a pro-Russian military blogger posted a video showing a body in Bakhmut, who has been identified as Nick by his uncle Paul Maimer, and Perry Blackburn, who helped recruit him to Kyiv. The State Department has not verified Maimer’s death but has reports of a U.S. citizen killed in Bakhmut. (Idaho Statesman)
- Four suspects involved in vehicle burglaries and shootings have been arrested in Boise. Investigations began after reports were made of stolen firearms from locked and unlocked vehicles, along with reports of violence where shots were fired. Multiple departments teamed up to execute a search and arrest warrant, and SWAT teams were activated because of alleged violent crimes. Kalehe Byriringiro, Isiak Hatwibu, Samuel Nsanzamahoro, and Sefu Idi are facing charges ranging from aggravated assault to grand theft and aiding and abetting. (Idaho News)
- New amenities are coming to the Veterans Memorial Park! The City of Boise Parks and Recreation Commission has approved a plan to provide the park with a natural play area, security infrastructure, and an 18-hole disc golf course. The course would be only the second 18-hole disc golf course in Boise, and Parks and Rec received over a thousand survey responses in interest and support toward the updates. Discussions are ongoing and the final plan will be set by late summer or fall. (KTVB.com)
