Morning, everybody! I'm back in your inbox this morning with your new edition of the Boise Daily. Keep reading for the most important things happening around town.

The Boise Daily was recently contacted by Teresa Hamblin thanking us for the news we provide and especially the listed events occurring in the North End. Teresa wanted to share us with her friends but was unable to find the link to share. If you, like Teresa, wish to spread the word of the Boise Daily, the link is https://patch.com/idaho/boise/subscribe. Like Teresa does daily, and now her friends, enjoy the Boise Daily.

We want the Boise Daily to be a place to recognize those in community doing great things. Did your neighbor mow that lawn down the street for someone who could not? Send us a picture. Did your child sell cookies and lemonade only to donate the money? Send us a picture. Did your aunt just retire from serving the public after 30 years? Send us a picture. Let this page become a place to honor those who do something good. Send us a picture and a short summary to john.braese@patch.com.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. If a group wishes to discuss the topic of death, a Boise cemetery is the logical place. CBS2 news staff report the Boise Death Cafe will host a discussion on dying at the Dry Creek Cemetery on June 14. Speakers will include death doulas, nurses, hospice workers, writers, historians and end-of-life planners, among others according to a news release. (Idaho News)
  2. If you lived in Boise for any long period of time, chances are a meal at the Kopper Kitchen near the Boise Airport has taken place. Perhaps a quick lunch with someone flying in or a late-night breakfast after a few drinks downtown. BoiseDev managing editor Gretchen Parsons breaks the sad news the 50-year-old institution called it quits after COVID-19 and rising prices took place the past few years. Some employees now out of work included those serving since the 1980s. (boisedev.com)
  3. In 1985, the average price of gas was $1.12 per gallon. The average home price across the nation was $96,500. A gallon of milk would set you back $2.20. Picking up a hot dog and drink at Costco would take $1.50 out of your pocket. KTVB-TV's Erin Jones reports only one of the above purchases today is the same as the 1985 price. Costco has announced a viral tweet stating the lunch combo price was increasing is incorrect and after loading up the cart and checking out, lunch will still only be $1.50. In 2021, Costco sold over 122 million of the hot dog/drink combos with more than a few of those in the Boise stores. (KTVB)
  4. Your backyard may look empty as summer arrives, but Boise Patch has the answer. Our shelters in the valley are overflowing with animals needing new homes and we have some new ones for you. Grab a look and see if your backyard needs a new friend. (Boise Patch)
  5. A shock may await you in the mailbox. KIVI-TV's Anna Azallion reports counties are sending out annual property assessments and in Ada County, property values have increased by 30 percent this year. Exactly how this equates to your property taxes in unclear, but the article provides links to programs to help including the Circuit Breaker program, the 100 percent Service-Connected Disabled Veterans Tax Benefit Program and the Property Tax Deferral Program.
