Boise's Oldest Firehouse May Be Replaced
The city is considering replacing Station 5 and replacing the structure along with affordable housing units.

BOISE, ID — The City of Boise is looking at replacing the busiest and oldest fire station in the command.

The Boise Fire Department recently provided a presentation to the Boise City Council calling for replacing Station 5, located adjacent to Rhodes Skatepark in downtown Boise. The firehouse has logged the largest amount of calls for the city for some years.

City plans call for the removal of the station to be replaced by a new building and affordable housing on the lot. Part of the current property is used as a parking lot. Boise Fire determined the station should stay in the same location, but a remodel of the current facility is cost prohibitive.
Station 5 was built in the 1950s and has served the Boise downtown area since that time. The city has plans on using a private developer to build the housing units, but continue to own the land and set rental prices.
