Hello all. It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily. Keep reading to find out the most important things happening these days in town...
We start the Friday edition of the Boise Daily with a celebration gone bad at Boise State University and the college not releasing much information after an investigation. Here are the top stories in Boise today:
- In sports, winning a title is a moment of celebration for both the team and the fans. When Boise State University grabbed the title for the Mountain West men's basketball season, the joyful day was placed under scrutiny by the actions of university security staff including throwing fans to the floor after the final game. BoiseDev editor Don Day and his staff obtained a heavily redacted report on the incident and report the state university, citing "personnel issues," is releasing little, if any actions, were taken after both ExtraMile Arena and Boise State athletic director Jeramiah Dickey released apologies following the incident. - You find that perfect mountain bike or collectible sweatshirt online and come to terms with the seller for the purchase. For the exchange, go to the seller's home or meet at your home or come together in the downtown Boise parking garage at 1 a.m.? Boise Patch announces the City of Boise has a new Internet Purchase Exchange location at City Hall West for both the buyer and seller to feel safe. The area is the parking lot at the Boise Police Department so officers will be walking in and out and if something does go wrong, they are immediately available. (Boise Patch)
- Your sushi could become more tame and that chicken sandwich could have less of a kick. King 5 news reports Huy Fong Foods, the maker of Sriracha, announced the spicy condiment has ceased production due to a shortage of chili peppers. Your wait to throw some on scrambled eggs or on the top of an Idaho baked potato may be quite some time as September or October may be the next available date for delivery. (king5)
- By the end of Friday, we will know the fate of the parents of Emrik Osuna, the 9-year-old Meridian boy found dead in September 2020, after months of abuse. Both Monique Osuna, the boy's stepmother, and Erik Osuna, the boy's father, pled guilty to first-degree murder charges. KTVB-TV's Alexandra Duggan provides some of the horrific testimony heard in court on the boy's daily life. When found, the 9 year old weighed 44 pounds. (KTVB)
- If your job in Boise has your down or you are possibly looking for a career change, seven Boise restaurants are currently for sale and looking for new blood to lead the charge. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart provides clues to the mystery eateries currently waiting for new ownership, possibly you. Prices range from a paltry $110,000 to $1.5 million. (liteonline)

Are you a Boise resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Boise Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
