City Of Boise Accepting Grant Applications Through April 29

BOISE, ID — The Cityof Boise is currently in the process of accepting applications for two different grant opportunities and is offering workshops for both to assist those interested in applying.

The Community Development Block Grant is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs, including projects and activities that focus on low- to moderate-income households. CDBG funds can support a wide range of public service activities, including but not limited to rental assistance, employment programs, case management, childcare, and medical services.

Awards will be based on the priority needs identified in the City’s Five-Year Consolidated Plan and the priority needs of Our Path Home. Public service activities that focus on homelessness are a priority.

The city opens a competitive application process at least once a year. Applicants must qualify as a 501(c)3 organization, identify and address urgent needs of the community and projects must serve income-eligible individuals or families.

The Housing and Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee reviews applications and makes funding recommendations to Mayor and City Council. These recommendations are included in the Annual Action Plan submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) provides local governments with resources to fund a wide range of activities including building, buying and/or rehabilitating housing for rent or homeownership, site acquisition or improvement.

Funding is available to support the City’s Consolidated Plan goals of increasing access to and inventory of affordable housing, increasing housing and services for households experiencing homelessness, increasing neighborhood equity, and preserving affordable housing.

$2,000,000 - CDBG funds may be used for activities which include, but are not limited to:

• Acquisition of real property
• Relocation and demolition
• Rehabilitation of residential and non-residential structures
• Construction of public facilities and improvements, such as water and sewer facilities, streets, neighborhood centers, and the conversion of school buildings for eligible purposes
• Activities relating to energy conservation and renewable energy resources

$700,000 - HOME funds may be used for activities that include:

• Home purchase financing assistance to eligible homeowners and new homebuyers
• Build housing for rent or ownership
• Site acquisition or site improvements
• Demolition of dilapidated housing to make way for HOME-assisted development
• Tenant-based rental assistance

The Application Review Committee reviews applications and makes funding recommendations to Mayor and City Council. These recommendations are included in the Annual Action Plan submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
