Trails across the lower Boise Foothills are getting very muddy after about 10 a.m. each morning. Our Ridge to Rivers trail crew is seeing a lot of damage at trailheads and in popular reserves including Table Rock, Hulls Gulch and Military Reserve due to high use (see attached photos).

Even all-weather Ridge to Rivers trails are often too wet for responsible use this week, unless you can get out first thing in the morning when the trails are still frozen. Please give the trail system a break and use the Boise River Greenbelt for recreation until things have a chance to dry out.

PLEASE DO NOT USE HEROES TRAIL IN MILITARY RESERVE
Heroes Trail, located behind the Boise VA Medical Center, has been popular since it officially opened last year. However, continued high use despite muddy conditions is creating a real mess along the trail (photos attached). There is now significant damage to the trail tread.
“If you love and enjoy using Ridge to Rivers trails, please help us spread the word that using them when they are muddy can create lasting damage our trail team cannot fix,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “Unfortunately, Heroes Trail is an example of how quickly a trail experience can change due to careless use when it’s muddy.”

If you encounter mud along your hike, run or ride please turn around and recreate elsewhere. It’s up to all of us to preserve the experience we love in the Boise Foothills, and the best way to do that right now is to stay off of wet, muddy trails like Heroes Trail.
