Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- As the court date comes closer for Lori Vallow Daybell and Chad Daybell in a Boise court room, attorneys for Vallow Daybell want cameras banned from the proceedings. In our weekly update on this national case, EastIdahoNews reporter Nate Eaton writes Vallow Daybell's attorneys argue 'the media has “abused” their privilege to photograph and video proceedings.' A ruling on the request has not been issued. (eastidahonews)
- If you are struggling with the rent this month, Ada County still has emergency rental assistance available. Boise Patch and the county provide you information on the ERAP program, assistance already provided to 5,300 Ada County households already. (Boise Patch)
- Gas prices are still steep, but that has not stopped people from leaving town. KIVI-TV's Cooper Waytenick reports "bookings for airfare, hotels, rental cars, cruises and tours for the holiday are up 22% from a year ago, according to AAA." Airfare, hotel prices and rentals are all higher than in the last two years. The average price for a gallon of gas in Idaho stands at $4.54. (kivitv)
- If you have driven around Boise State University, chances are your vehicle has been on Cesar Chavez Lane. Named after the Hispanic labor and civil rights leader, The Arbiter's Brydon Black writes the street received it's namesake after Taco Bell Arena received sponsorship by the fast good giant. A familiar name in Boise, Velma Morrison, objected to renaming the street after Chavez and according to the article, BSU attempted to rename the street again, this time to Velma Morrison Lane. (arbiteronline)
- Bronco football is big in Boise. KTVB-TV's Zack Armstrong has the bad news for fans BSU dropped their opener to the Beavers of Oregon State, 34-17. The Broncos fell behind early and now appear to have a quarterback controversy after their fourth-year starter was pulled in favor of a redshirt freshman. (ktvb)
