Disturbance At Boise Prison Results In Five Hospitalized
The Idaho Department of Correction releases updated information on Saturday's incident.

BOISE, ID — Officials with the Idaho Department of Correction released additional information regarding the disturbance that occured Saturday, April 10, at the prison located south of Boise.

The incident started at approximately 4:30 p.m. when staff entered Tier 1 of H Block to check reports of a possible assault on the tier. After staff entered the tier, inmates began destroying property and ingnited a fire in a trash can.

H Block is a dormitory style housing unit without individual cell doors which can be secured.
Staff immediately left the tier and two adjacent 96-bed tiers were also evacuated. The facility, consisting of numerous housing units, was placed on lockdown due to the ongoing incident. In addition, the Correctional Emergency Response Team was activated.

Local law enforcement, including Ada County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police were notified of the incident and secured a perimeter around the facility. Members of the CERT were used to clear the affected housing unit and order was restored by late evening.
The inmates living in the two unaffected tiers in H-block were returned to the living areas late Satruday night. Inmates living on the affected tier were relocated to numerous housing units within the facility.
Corrections officials state all inmates will be provided the opportunity to contact family members soon.
Along with corrections staff, the Ada County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation into Saturday night's occurence. The tier remains closed as a crime scene.
No staff were injured during the disturbance. Four inmates were evaluated by IDOC staff and treated at a local hospital. All four were returned to the institution. A fifth inmate was evaluated and treated at a hospital Monday for an injury he apparently received during the incident.
A determination of any criminal activity will be made after the investigation is completed according to state officials.
