Hey, everybody. It's Sunday in Boise and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening locally. Let's have at it...

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Boise Daily. A sentencing in Emmett has ended a case from 2021 that started as three juvenile runaways and turned into a child's body found dead on the property of her grandmother. Boise no longer has a summer parade, but neighboring towns have picked up the slack and we provide when and where you can sit on the curb. Boise is the home to a new world headquarters, but this is not a corporate giant. You may be shocked at the value of your property this year, but we have some help and eating in downtown Boise is not so easy anymore.

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. The conclusion to a case that stunned the Treasure Valley came Friday as an Emmett grandmother was sentenced to 20 years in prison for convictions involving the death of the granddaughter. KIVI-TV's Meredith Spelbring reports Connie Ann Smith, 54, will serve a minimum of five years before becoming eligible for parole on two felony convictions. The body of Smith's granddaughter, Taryn Summers, was found April 15, 2021 at Smith's residence in Emmett. (kivitv)
  2. Summer in Boise also means parades. Sitting on the curb and waiting for the antique car or float with riders throwing candy is a must for many local families. With the loss of Boise's own 4th of July parade, LITE-FM's Michelle Heart offers eight alternative parades around the valley area. If you really are in the parade spirit, the article includes links to register to be in the parade instead of just watching from the sidelines. (liteonline)
  3. Boise is the new home to the headquarters of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (WFF) and on Friday, a ribbon cutting formally opened the center to the public. KTVB-TV staff toured the facility that includes an exhibit to honor fallen firefighters. WFF's new Boise headquarters is located at 2933 West Airport Way. (KTVB.com)
  4. A recent piece of mail may be good news or bad, depending on your attitude. Ada County recently mailed out Assessment Notices of property around the county. You will notice what the county states the value of your property has increased substantially. Boise Patch has some advice from county officials on why values increased and how to possibly lower your upcoming taxes through the Homestead Exemption. (Boise Patch)
  5. If you are wandering around downtown Boise and feel those pangs of hunger, finding a place to grab a bite is not so easy anymore. BoiseDev editor Don Day looks at the growing list of restaurants pulling out of the downtown area and leaving empty storefronts. Pizza places, delis, ice cream shops, burger joints-none seem to be immune to the downtown exodus. (boisedev)
