Good morning, hello. It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily — back in your inbox with all the most important things happening in town these days. Here goes.

Our readers come through again. We recently asked dog lovers in Boise if additional dog parks were needed in our city. Debbie from Boise quickly let us know the City of Trees needs more places for our four-legged friends and we really need one with a "large water fountain like the one in Nampa." Wendy even suggests users would be willing to pony up a small use fee if the park was well maintained and accessible. Thank you Debbie!

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Boise Daily. Fair goers had an interesting Friday night after a stabbing and accidental shooting. A local mother is justifiably displeased with her child's school bus and the City of Boise owns some new property. We look back at a stabbing over 100 years ago and a new RV park is in the works.

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. Attending the Western Idaho Fair Friday evening turned scary for some after a stabbing and shooting occurred in the parking lot. CBS2 news staff report one person was stabbed, but the shooting was the result of an accidental self-inflicted gun play. The Ada County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation. (Idaho News)
  2. The start of the school year always brings about some problems, but those are usually a missing notebook or a forgotten lunch. KTVB-TV's Andrew Baertlein speaks with Jennifer Peterson, the mother of a 5-year-old student in the West Ada School District. When Peterson's kindergarten student did not arrive home on the bus after 30 minutes of being late, she attempted to find which bus he was riding. The district's bus company, Cascade Transportation, refused to speak with KTVB after agreeing to a video call to discuss the matter and the company's corporate office also is not talking. (KTVB.com)
  3. The City of Boise recently purchased the Sage Mobile Home Park with plans to preserve the area as affordable housing. Boise Patch reports the city is the new owner of the 2-acre mobile home park on the Boise Bench with plans to make repairs to the park electrical system and additional improvements to the lots and amenities to ensure no residents are displaced from their homes. (Boise Patch)
  4. If you read our first story regarding the incident at the Western Idaho Fair, take heart as violence also took place in Boise in 1891. A new book, Murder and Mayhem in Boise, is scheduled to be released Sept. 5, but a story not making the book is here now. Idaho History's Mark Iverson recounts the shooting at the Free Roll Saloon on 6th Street in downtown Boise. Relive an account of Boise's past including a bar fight, our brothels of the time, a shooting and a death. (idahohistory)
  5. Some local clay shooters may need to start searching for a new range to practice. BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel reports the owners of Black Dog Clays, located east of the southern end of Cole Road, have plans to construct a 388-unit RV resort. If approved, construction would be completed in phases over a period of three years. (boisedev)

Today in Boise:

  • Watson's Mystery Cafe and Spirits invites you to watch the cast of Improv Insanity create an entirely improvised show in the style of a police procedural drama. (6 p.m.)

  • The Boise Baroque Orchestra will perform at the Chateau des Fleurs. (8:15 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • US National Weather Service Boise Idaho: "It was a gorgeous sunrise here in Boise this morning! Really liked the contrail over the clouds. Did you know that the length of time the contrail hangs around depends on the relative humidity at the level of the flight?" (US National Weather Service Boise Idaho via Facebook)
  • Idaho Humane Society: "Nina was found as a stray and dropped off by a Good Samaritan. She was suffering from a serious injury to her back right paw—one of her toes was in bad condition." (Idaho Humane Society via Facebook)
  • Boise Weekly: "Lex Eats Local: Rooftop Dining at 105 Degrees Out of all of the outdoor dining options, a rooftop restaurant is perhaps the sweatiest. Scientific American reports rooftop temperatures are often higher than the “actual air temperature." (Boise Weekly via Instagram)
  • Boise State Public Radio: "Odds are, you’ve driven by it a hundred times – a modest one-bedroom, one-bathroom house in Boise’s River Street neighborhood. Most people called 617 Ash Street “Erma’s place" or the "Hayman House.”" (Boise State Public Radio via Facebook)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Colonial Estates: "Please Share! - Build up Boise Schools for our kids by doing one thing! (watch to find out)
  • VoteKrista.com Election Alert: Tuesday Sept 6th Please share with your friends and family in BSD." (Nextdoor)

Now you're in the loop and ready to head out the door on this Sunday. I'll be back in your inbox tomorrow with your next update!
