🌱 Goathead Fest + Flying M Anniversary + One State Employee Pay Raise
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Hi all. It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in the community today. Let's do this.
You made it through the week and welcome to the Friday edition of the Boise Daily. To find one thing everyone agrees on is difficult, but we open with a universal hatred of goatheads. For 30 years, the Flying M has served coffee to those looking to wake up in downtown Boise, and one state employee is taking home a much larger paycheck. We provide the application for free school lunches, and the fish are ready to jump into your creel from the Boise River.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Boise today:
- Many have called it the most excruciating pain ever. It has kept bicycle tube makers in business for years. Even your family pet has become a victim to the spiny daggers. KIVI-TV's Meredith Spelbring brings the announcement Boise's 5th Annual Goathead Fest returns Aug. 27. This year's fest will include the "Wonderfully-Weird and Bona-fide-Boise bicycle" Pedal-Powered Parade, live music performances, kids' activities, beer and more, organizers announced. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
- For a Boise business to survive 30 years in the hospitality market is reason to celebrate. The Boise Weekly's Tracy Bringhurst looks at Boise's Flying M's 30 years in business on the corner of Fifth and Idaho. Even change is needed after 30 years so Flying M will soon ramp up with a new breakfast burrito and crustless quiche and plans for lunch options. (boiseweekly)
- We could all use a raise from our employer. CBS2 carries a story written by Associated Press reporter Keith Ridler of one state employee picking up a hefty bump in pay. Lame-duck Republican Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin has decided to promote her administrative assistant from her current part time $20 an hour position to a full time $37 an hour status. The assistant, Machelle Hamilton, also receives a title and remains as first vice-chair of the Idaho Republican Party. (idahonews)
- Boise Patch previously informed our readers of the decision by the Boise School District to discontinue free lunches for all students due to changes in the federal guidelines. If this change impacts your family, Boise Patch is pleased to now offer you the online meal application, courtesy of the Boise School District, to determine if your family meets the qualifications for free or reduced meals. (Boise Patch)
- Grab the fishing poles as hungry fish are in the Boise River. KTVB-TV staff release the video of 1,400 hatchery fish entering our local river at Barber Park and headed downstream. If you are unsuccessful, don't worry — another round of fish is scheduled to hit the water later this month. (KTVB.com)
