Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. Five years after it won approval from the City of Boise to close Jefferson Street, St. Luke's Health System took a step closer to actually closing the downtown street. BoiseDev editor Don Day writes the downtown hospital has requested a design review from the city to permanently close Jefferson. During months of testimony, the medical center threatened to move the facility away from the downtown area to Meridian if the closure was not granted. (boisedev.com)
  2. Now is the time to plan building a float, purchase red, white and blue streamers and pick the perfect spot to watch a parade. CBS2's Ryan Hawes reports after skipping last year, the Boise 4th of July Parade is returning this year with a new sponsor and new opportunities for Boise resident to become involved. Links are included in the story for sponsorships, volunteer opportunities and enrolling your group to march in the celebration. (Idaho News)
  3. Visitors to Boise this past weekend for Treefort brought in an estimated $8 million into the city. KTVB's Abby Davis reports 500 artists performed on 60 stages throughout the city, increasing the visibility of the music scene of the capital city throughout the nation. (KTVB.com)
  4. Jumping out of Boise to a story continuing to receive national attention, a Fruitland woman has been judged competent to stand trial in the case of missing Michael "Monkey" Vaughan. KIVI-TV's Karen Lehr reports the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare has deemed Sarah Wondra is now ready for trial. Wondra, charged with failing to report the death Vaughan who was five years old when he went missing from his family's Fruitland home on July 27, 2021, will now be transferred back to Payette County custody and held on the $500,000 bond that was set upon her original arrest. (kivitv)
  5. Idaho Gov. Brad Little pulled out his veto stamp and used it on a property tax relief bill that passed the Legislature only last week. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert writes the bill would have directed $100 million to schools to use for property tax relief — such as paying down bonds and levies and done away with the March school elections. The bill also would have put $400 million in transportation projects on hold. (idahoednews)
