Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your new copy of the Boise Daily. Let's get this Tuesday started off right with a quick dive into everything you need to know about what's happening in town, including updates on...

  • The saga into why nine Boise Police Officers' complaints against the police chief went uninvestigated continue with a city council member stating the incident entered into a "gray area."
  • Imagine volunteering and showing up to a meeting only to find out you are no longer welcome, and the meeting will be your last. That is what happened recently in the City of Eagle.
  • Over 500 Idaho teachers are speaking out on exactly what is wrong with their chosen profession.

Our reader question of the day for Tuesday is very simple. Is the City of Boise moving in the right direction? Very simply, are you happy with the direction city leaders are taking in the City of Trees? Email your answer to john.braese@patch.com. Feel free to expand on your thoughts, positive or negative.

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. Is there a past branch of your family tree with a shady past or possibly was away from the family for a few years (maybe three years fixed up to seven years)? The Idaho Capital Sun's Christina Lords reports the Old Penitentiary, the historic Idaho prison in Boise, is asking the public for old photographs that depict the prison's history. Currently, the Idaho State Historical Society has only a few photos of the prison's past, but believe others are out there in private collections. In addition to the prison, the society is also looking for photos of the old prison farm, now Eagle Island State Park and construction of the prison. (idahocapitalsun)
  2. Nine different police officers filed complaints against former Boise police chief Ryan Lee with the Human Resources department of the City of Boise taking no action to investigate. KTVB-TV's Alexandra Duggan speaks with Boise City Council member Patrick Bageant who stated the lack of action was due to a "gray area." (KTVB)
  3. Boise Patch is here to assist you in finding that next great job. This week's new positions include a number of customer service positions, secretarial jobs, truck drivers and retail positions. (Boise Patch)
  4. Volunteers working on the City of Eagle's Arts Commission are no longer needed and the reason why remains unclear. BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel reports the City of Eagle sent a liaison to the commission meeting last month to inform the volunteers the meeting would be the last. In addition, all projects the commission was working on would be placed on hold and a request to interview the city's mayor for the reasoning behind the announcement went unanswered. (boisedev)
  5. Are half the people you currently work with unhappy with their job? According to the results of a recent survey of 500 Idaho teachers conducted by IdahoEdNews, 50 percent of education professionals report are unsatisfied with their jobs, but 90 percent are sticking it out. Topping the list of problems is lack of respect felt on the job. Other issues include students' mental health, stress from the state's legislation, burnout and on the very bottom, low pay. Today in Boise:

  • If you own a business, large or small, the Boise Public Library is offering a DIY Business Market Research course Tuesday. (Noon)
  • The high schools of Capital, Nampa, and Mountain View will meet at the West YMCA for a co-ed swim meet. (2 p.m.)
  • The Global Lounge wants all those with needle and thread to meet and sew together Tuesday. (6 p.m.)
  • Marian Herz left Boise in September 2020 on a road trip to Nevada and Arizona to just look at birds. Herz will now give a presentation on that trip, sponsored by the Golden Eagle Audubon Society on Tuesday. (6:30 p.m.)
  • The Boise High School choir will hold a fall concert Tuesday evening. (7:30 p.m.)

From my notebook:

  • US National Weather Service Boise Idaho: "The weather through Friday will be a near carbon copy of what we've seen the last several days, but the onset of a change to wet, windy, and cool conditions arrives next weekend. Stay tuned for updates! #idwx #orwx" (US National Weather Service Boise Idaho via Facebook)
  • Zoo Boise: "Meet Zoo Boise's Golden Grrls! The poised leader, Nile crocodile Pandora. The captivating charmer, Amur tiger Akasha. The playful optimist, sloth bear Paji. The offbeat wisecracker, sarus crane Claudia." (Zoo Boise via Facebook)
  • Boise State Public Radio: "Several Idaho cities have both a Fred Meyer — owned by Kroger — and an Albertsons. That means overlap, and to the Federal Trade Commission, that’s likely a red flag." (Boise State Public Radio via Facebook)
  • Boise Weekly: "Death Rattle is a nonprofit literary organization dedicated to providing public platforms to underserved writers in the community. One of those platforms is 'The Spill,' a “bi-monthly, open-mic live story-telling event." (Boise Weekly via Instagram)
  • Idaho Botanical Garden: "Yoga in the Garden has been a blast! These classes are filling up fast, but we have spots open for this Saturday, Oct. 22. Join us Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. for an amazing yoga session in the Meditation Garden." (Idaho Botanical Garden via Facebook)
  • Boise State Public Radio: "Attn. Boise State students! We have several job openings available to get you hands-on experience, on-campus. If you are interested in event planning, donor research and on-air fundraising support, check out our jobs page!" (Boise State Public Radio via Facebook)

Alrighty, you're all caught up for today! I'll see you soon.
