Hello, neighbors! It's me again, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily.

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Boise Daily. We start off Saturday with a debate pitting target shooters versus hikers for a piece of open land. More money than you can imagine is going into our upcoming campaigns, and we still have not received enough rain to get out of a drought. A group wants you to see Boise from a different advantage point, and new money is available for local rental assistance.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. With open spaces becoming a premium, some Eagle residents are opposing a proposed 80-acre 'shooting sports park,' one the city is pushing. KTVB-TV's Morgan Romero speaks with equestrians, runners, hikers and others advocating the gun range not be placed in an area they use for recreation. (KTVB.com)
  2. Politics and elections cost money — big money. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert looks at the most recent finance reports from Idaho's races. One race has raised $1.4 million for a part-time job. An incumbent has raised $2 million in a bid to keep his position. Candidates are loaning money to their own campaigns. 3. Planning an outdoor event has been difficult this spring, but all our recent rains have not been enough to pull our area out of an upcoming drought. CBS2 news staff speak with David Hoekema with the Idaho Department of Water Resources and other experts on how much water will be seen this summer. (idahonews)
  4. A Boise nonprofit is urging you to go climb a tree. Boise State Public Radio's George Prentice speaks with Canopy Watch, a group offering you a chance to see Boise from the top of a tree in Julia Davis Park. (boisestatepublicradio)
  5. Much has been written regarding the rising rental costs in Boise. The city recently approved an additional $6.5 million in federal rental assistance to Boiseans and Boise Patch has the information on how to apply if you are needing a little help with that monthly expense. (Boise Patch)

  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Morrison Knudsen Plaza: "My wife & I are looking for an apartment in the area around $1,000. We are both 55+, employed, financially stable with excellent credit. Just need something clean and reasonable." (Nextdoor)
