Here are the top three stories in Boise today:

  1. A fire near Highway 55 south of Horseshoe Bend sent smoke into the air, visible from Boise. The 44-acre fire started on Sunday near mile marker 59 on Horseshoe Bend Hill and required the assistance of multiple fire departments, including Boise Fire Department, Eagle Fire Department, Star Fire Department, and the Bureau of Land Management team. The Horseshoe Bend Fire Department also reminded people to secure their loads on Idaho roadways to prevent incidents that could spark wildfires. (KTVB 7)
  2. A suspect was shot by a Boise police officer early Saturday morning near 5th and Main after a chase. The officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle as part of an ongoing investigation when they attempted to make contact with the occupants. One person fled the scene with a firearm in hand and reportedly ignored commands, leading to the officer shooting and striking the suspect. The suspect is in critical condition, while no officers were injured. The Ada County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation, and witnesses are urged to contact Ada County Dispatch. 3. A fireworks stand on State Street and Glenwood in Boise is raising funds for a Christmas toy store organized by St. Vincent De Paul. They will receive 20 percent of the proceeds from the stand, aiming to provide gifts for children in need during the holiday season. The stand is located in the Albertsons parking lot, ready to support a good cause while people prepare for Independence Day celebrations. (Idaho 2 News)
