Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Boise Daily. Sunday at our house is "big breakfast" day where we go all out.

Discarded hot ashes have been determined the cause of a Boise house fire that resulted in the home deemed a complete loss. As we do weekly, the Boise Daily offers the latest news on the upcoming Chad and Lori Vallow Daybell murder cases. Idahoans will have at least one ballot measure to determine come election day and all are invited to take a virtual tour of Boise schools. Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. A two-story home on Londoner Way was a complete loss after a fire early Saturday morning. KTVB-TV staff report the fire's cause was determined to be wood ashes dumped into a trash can. All residents of the home made it out safely and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross and the Local 149 Burnout Fund. (KTVB)
  2. As we strive to keep you informed, today is our weekly update on the Chad and Lori Daybell murder cases. East Idaho News reporter Nate Easton writes prosecutors this week requested a judge to allow comprehensive DNA testing on several pieces of evidence. The request was made previously, but Lori Vallow's case was then placed on hold while she was placed into custody of Idaho Health and Welfare. She was later found competent in April 2022 to stand trial, one scheduled to take place in Boise. If approved, the testing process would obliterate the evidence. Defense attorneys are allowed to witness the testing. (eastidahonews)
  3. Idaho voters will make the choice to add $300 million to public school funding come Nov. 8. The Idaho Capital Sun's Clark Corbin and Christina Lords combined for the story announcing Reclaim Idaho did present enough signatures to place the Quality Education Act on the ballot. A simple majority will only be needed for passage. If passed, corporate income tax would increase from 6 percent to 8 percent and a new tax bracket would be created for individuals making over $250,000, $500,000 for families. (idahocapitalsun)
  4. The beginning of school will be here before we know it and Boise Patch and the Boise School District invite you to take a virtual tour of Boise schools. We also provide the method to schedule an in-person tour. (Boise Patch)
  5. You now do not need to wait until the carnival is in town to partake of cotton candy. With just a short drive to Caldwell, KIVI-TV staff show you can purchase Fluf Candy, a gourmet version of the treat. A family business, the shop is located beneath Indian Creek. (KIVI)
