Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. The last few weeks in Boise have been hot, very hot. But is Boise now warmer than 10, 20 even 30 years ago? KIVI-TV's Geneva Zoltek writes our warmer days and nights are tied directly to our growth. Boise's average temperature has increased 5.6 degrees in the last 50 years, ranking the city one of the fastest warming metropolitan areas in the country. More people moving in translates to more roads, buildings and other structures absorbing and holding the sun's heat. Already this summer, Boise has experienced 41 days with above normal temperatures. The article also discusses plans the city is implementing to combat our increasing sweatiness. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
  2. For this story, the Boise Daily jumps to our neighbors in Canyon County. We all know politicians do not have all the answers and frequently reach out to trusted associates and experts with questions. KTVB-TV publishes a story by Idaho Press reporter Erin Banks relating the relationship between Canyon County Commissioner Leslie Van Beek and her former campaign treasurer, ElJay Waite. After eight of the nine Canyon County elected officials expressed no confidence in Van Beek and asked her to resign, 410 pages of emails between Van Beek and Waite, referred to as "boss" by Van Beek, show Waite was consulted on employee compensation, audited financial statements from the county, what to say during an interview, and Van Beek asking for advice on editing of emails. 3. Idahoans will have a choice on the November ballot for the office of Attorney General. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert announces Boise attorney Tom Arkoosh announced his candidacy as a Democrat for the state's top legal office, replacing Steve Scanlin on the ballot. Arkoosh will now face former U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador, the Republican nominee. In a move making the campaign interesting, Republican Jim Jones, a former attorney general and state Supreme Court justice, will serve as Arkoosh’s campaign treasurer. (idahoednews)
  4. Tuesday marks the night as 46 parties have registered for National Night Out. Members of the Boise Police Department, Boise Fire Department, paramedics, the Mayor, City Council members, and other city agencies will be making stops around Boise neighborhoods and talking with residents. Boise Patch has the information on where your neighborhood is meeting and who to expect to show up from the city. (BoisePatch)
  5. Boise NFL fans typically sway towards the Seattle Seahawks or Denver Broncos. However, the upcoming season may see a few more New York Jets jerseys around town. KIDO-AM's Kevin Miller has the story, and the pictures showing proof, of members of the Jets team spending their last days of summer before training camp right here in Idaho. Zach Wilson and his buddies were playing golf, spending time on a water slide, and posing for pictures at the Gozzer Ranch in Harrison, Idaho. The Jets did not run into Justin Bieber, another frequent visitor to the ranch. (kidotalkradio)
