- During Foster Care Awareness Month, one Boise parent is raising awareness for the foster care crisis in Idaho, where a scarcity of foster homes poses a challenge for the growing number of vulnerable children. Kate Wilson, the founder of Foster + Heart, a nonprofit organization, has committed herself to tackling this issue by offering assistance, establishing Mimi's House as a temporary haven for transitioning children, and advocating for the preservation of sibling groups. So far, 30 kids have come through Mimi's House since its opening in December. "We are already realizing that it's a huge need in our community, so we are looking at hopefully opening a second home by fall," Wilson said. To learn more about the nonprofit, click here. (KTVB 7)
- Idaho's state parks are set to receive a significant boost in funding to address a backlog of maintenance and upgrade facilities due to a surge in visitors. The Legislature has allocated around $165 million for the state Parks and Recreation Department, with a focus on capital improvements and the operating budget. The funds will help address the maintenance backlog, create new campsites and day-use areas, and improve infrastructure in various parks across the state. (KTVB 7)
