Hey, neighbors. It's Wednesday in Boise and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in the community, including news on:

  • A mountain lion has joined the joggers, bikers and walkers on the Greenbelt.
  • Two new candidates wish to determine to value of your home and property and the Boise Daily has interviews with each.
  • The Boise City Council determined if 115 people live at one address, all must receive notice of a change, not just one.

On Monday, the Boise Daily asked our followers on their views of the direction the city is taking. Here is two of the responses we received:

Charles was short and to the point with his response. "Hell no, this was a wonderful place to live. Build more s--- to accommodate the 'new' invaders," he said.

Ruth took the opposite side of Boise. "Yes, I approve of the direction that the city is taking. I think there is emphasis on recycling in the areas of plastics, compost and now water," said Ruth. "Low-income housing is needed and the city is trying to address that issue. Homelessness is a complicated issue which the city is not ignoring. I don't know how growth can be checked but that is a major concern for water and farmland."

But first, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. The weather is changing and that translates to animals pushing down from the foothills into the city. CBS2 news staff warn a mountain lion was observed on the Greenbelt Monday in the area of Shoreline and Americana. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is investigating. (idahonews)
  2. At one point in life, everyone starts at the same point. Boise Patch and the City of Boise announce National Teen Driver Safety Week and offer some safety reminders for teen drivers. Across the nation, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for teens 15-18 years old. (Boise Patch)
  3. For the first time in 30 years, a new person will lead the office of Ada County Assessor. This county agency determines the value of your property for taxation purposes. BoiseDev reporter Margaret Carmel speaks with Republican candidate Rebecca Arnold and Democratic candidate Erik Berg on their qualifications for the position and plans for Ada County. (boisedev)
  4. The Boise Daily continues with IdahoEdNews weeklong report on teachers. Written by Carly Flandro, hear today from 11 teachers around the state on why they chose teaching, why they stay in teaching and why they left teaching. The overwhelming consensus throughout the interviews is the need to be heard-by parents, by administrators, by our state's leaders. The interviews vary from 30 years' experience to those just starting a career this year. (idahoednews)
  5. A California-based company's plans to change an assisted living complex into an apartment complex has been returned back to the Planning and Zoning Commission for an additional hearing. Claiming the Arbor Village assisted living facility only has a single address for all 115 people living there, DiNapoli Capital Partners sent only a single notice of the company's intent as required by law. KTVB reports the Boise City Council, reversing a Planning and Zoning approval, stated all the residents should have been notified and a rehearing will be needed. (ktvb)
