  1. Jitters by Jayne, a new coffee shop, has opened in downtown Boise near Freak Alley. The shop, owned by Lexi Dimino, offers a variety of beverages such as coffee, tea, Italian sodas, and energy drinks, as well as food items like bagels, muffins, and oatmeal. Jitters by Jayne replaces the former Moss Coffee and Tea, and its operating hours are Tuesday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (boisedev.com)
  2. Employers in Boise and Meridian are conducting interviews at Wahooz Family Fun Zone on May 13 to fill summer job openings for teens and young adults. Various occupations will be represented, including mechanics, lifeguards, cooks, and veterinary technicians. Applicants are encouraged to bring a resume and can visit the Idaho Department of Labor for assistance. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
  3. A young boy's lemonade stand in Boise raised money for the Idaho Humane Society. Since kindergarten, animal lover Ben has been helping to raise money for the Humane Society. This year, Ben aimed to surpass last year's $1,800 donation with a goal to raise $2,000. He offered lemonade, cookies, dog treats, and hand-painted rocks. From my notebook:

  • The City of Boise has been actively reducing the use of pesticides on city-owned property, including parks and open space reserves, as part of its Pesticide Reduction Program. This program, now in its third year, has resulted in an increase in the presence of dandelions in the grass and open play areas. However, these plants are nontoxic for people and pets, and the areas remain safe for park visitors to enjoy as usual. (Boise Parks and Recreation via Facebook)
  • Boise Fire recently participated in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's Light the Night RED event to pay tribute to fallen firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Fire stations in Boise and nationwide are illuminated in red to show respect for these brave individuals and their families. Boise Fire expressed pride and honor in joining the #NFFFLightTheNight2023 campaign. (Boise Fire Department via Facebook)
  • This week in Boise, you can catch Idaho Steelheads Hockey playoff games on May 10, 12, and 13 at the Idaho Central Arena. Additionally, from May 8 to 14, Boise Music Week will be taking place. For a family-friendly outing, visit the Fairy & Gnome Exhibit at the Idaho Botanical Garden. (Visit Boise via Instagram)
