Juvenile In Custody In Rigby Shooting And More Updates
A sixth-grade female student is in custody and a fund has been set up for the custodian injured in the shooting Thursday in Rigby.

RIGBY, ID — A sixth-grade middle school student is in custody after a shooting occured at the Rigby Middle School on Thursday.
The female student has not been indentified due to her age and is from Idaho Falls.

Police were called to the school at 9:15 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Multiple police agencies were dispactched to the school and found three persons shot, two students and an adult custodian. The female suspect had been disarmed by a teacher prior to law enforcement arrival.
Students were evacuated to the nearby high school and the three victims were transported to a local hospital. The adult custodian was treated and released and the two juveniles are listed in fair condition. The injuries are not considered life threatening.

A GoFundMe account set up Thursday afternoon identified the custodian who was shot as Jim Wilson.
At a 4 p.m. press conference, Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson described the shooter as a sixth-grade girl who attended the school but lives in Idaho Falls. He said the shooter drew a gun from a backpack and shot three people before being stopped by a teacher.
“It’s a very difficult and trying time for our community,” he said.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra released a statement saying the state agency was ready to provide support to the district as the impacts of this shooting are revealed.
Thursday's incident was not the first time violence occured in the small town. In 1989, a 14-year old male student took a female student hostage and threatened a teacher with a gun. He was taken into custody without injury to anyone involved.
