Hello, friends! John Braese here with your fresh copy of the Boise Daily, filled with all the things you need to know about what's happening in town.

Boise Police have released the name of a local man involved in a shooting, and we update you on a scam involving student loans. We take a look at the future of our local mall, and two local men have been sentenced for shooting an eagle.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. As any homeowner knows, 61 years is a long time to stay in one place. BoiseDev reporter Autum Robertson announces the Idaho Department of Transportation is leaving the agency's location on State Street to a new location on Chinden Boulevard. The current location will be sought after by developers as the 45 acres is close to downtown, Esther Simplot Park, Veteran's Memorial Park and borders Boise's North End District. (boisedev.com)
  2. Boise Police have released the name of the man involved in a June 9 car theft, high speed chase and shootout with police. KTVB-TV staff report the man has been identified as 39-year-old Jake Cottrell of Boise. Cottrell remains in a Boise hospital but is facing seven felonies related to the June 9 incident. Cottrell originally encountered two parole officers before carjacking a vehicle and fleeing to Eagle. After a PIT maneuver disabled the vehicle, Cottrell and police officers exchanged gun fire, wounding Cottrell. (KTVB)
  3. Have you received notification of forgiveness of a student loan, but the company needs a fee to look into the situation? This is just one of the many new scams the City of Boise and Boise Patch are passing on to our followers. Some debt relief companies are charging a fee for a service that is free with just some conversation between a servicer and yourself. (Boise Patch)
  4. Americans spend $155 billion in online purchases according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This is just one of the reasons the Boise Towne Square Mall has 20 open store fronts. KISS-FM's Stephanie Gull looks at a few of the reasons malls are struggling across the nation and looks back at 25 stores formerly in the mall, not just a memory. (1035kissfmboise)
  5. Two local men will serve two years of probation, serve 15 hours of community service, pay fines and not be allowed to hunt for two years after sentencing for shooting a golden eagle. CBS2 news staff report Colten Ferdinand, 20, of Boise and Wyatt Noe, 23, of Eagle were sentenced Wednesday for shooting the eagle in the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey Conservation Area just outside of Boise. Are you a Boise resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Boise Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
