Welcome to the Friday edition of the Boise Daily. Over 600 members of the Idaho National Guard will need to read the Boise Daily to keep up with local news as boarded planes for a deployment in Asia. Our current status of the Boise River is much different, and cleaner, than the past and your child's school resource officer recently underwent some intense training. You do have a choice of getting around downtown and candidates for the Boise School Board answered some questions.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- While one group of families cried and said goodbye, a second group of families is counting down days. KTVB-TV staff write more than 600 members of the Idaho National Guard's 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team departed Gowen Field for a deployment in Southwest Asia. A second group is expected to return home in October after deploying in November 2021. The Idaho soldiers are part of Operation Spartan Shield, a joint mission under U.S. Central Command and is part of Operation Enduring Freedom, which began after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. - A highlight of Boise is our flowing river running right through town. Residents of very few cities can claim that within a short drive or bicycle ride exists fishing for steelhead, skipping rocks or picking up friends off a tubing adventure. FromBoise's Marissa Lovell and Amanda Patchin look at the history of the Boise River. Prior to today's attraction, the river was home to slaughterhouse waste, abandoned vehicles and raw sewage. Beginning in 1975, the Boise Greenbelt went from an idea to the original 12 miles. (fromboise)
- In the event a shooting takes place in a Boise school, it will be a school resource officer as the lone officer on the scene for the initial minutes of the incident. CBS2's Luke Randle was present as Boise School Resource Officers (SRO) spent the day participating in scenario-based training specific to schools Wednesday at the Boise Police Department Training Facility. Officers trained on breaching doors, moving through hallways and finding a target. (idahonews)
- Gas prices are slowing falling, but the Boise Weekly's Nick Danlag offers an alternative to finding a parking place downtown. Vall-eBike is an electric, pedal-assist bike share network launched by Valley Regional Transport July 13. A total of 50 bikes are scattered around Boise, mainly in the downtown area. Depending on usage, three payment plans exist to cruise around Boise and get up those inclines without burning out your quads. (boiseweekly)
- Boise voters will decide Sept. 6 the trustees who will decide the path of education for years to come. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert provided a list of questions to each candidate including pandemic issues, critical race theory, and teacher retention.
