Here are the top three stories in Boise today:
- Boise homeowners in the Treasure Valley are projected to experience a decrease in property taxes for the first time in years, with an 8.7 percent reduction expected for the average homeowner. This shift is attributed to a decline in home values following the surge experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the burden of property taxes is expected to shift back towards commercial properties as residential-assessed values decrease. (AOL)
- Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer Gavin Gard, based at Boise Airport, was honored with the national "In the Line of Duty" award for his heroic actions in rescuing three individuals in distress on the Boise River last summer. Gard, while floating the river with friends, sprang into action when he noticed a woman and her child struggling in the water, rescuing them and ensuring their safety. Gard's bravery will also be acknowledged with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Award for Valor later this summer. (TSA Gov)
- Lower Hulls Gulch is a popular trail in the Boise foothills, attracting hikers, runners, mountain bikers, and dog owners. To ensure safety and convenience, Ridge to Rivers implemented a system where downhill mountain biking is allowed on odd days and prohibited on even days, giving other users the opportunity to enjoy the trail. While some incidents have occurred, overall, the separation of trail use has been effective, and there are alternative trails available for those who visit on the wrong days. (Idaho News 6)
