The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Saturday may be one of my favorite days of the year. May 27 is National Hamburger Day, complete with condiments. The largest burger on record weighed in at 2,014 pounds.

Hello, friends! It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's happening around town.

Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Boise Daily. We prepare you for the upcoming holiday with events scheduled at numerous cemeteries around Boise. Neighbors are unhappy with each other in Eagle over a glass of wine, and our low snow pack has created boaters as victims. You are invited to a night of baseball and a chance to support local scholarships and finally, one Boise man will not be in your local park for the next 20 years.

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. The long weekend is here and KTVB-TV staff provides a listing of events to celebrate Memorial Day. The holiday is a chance for us to honor those veterans who made the sacrifice of their lives for our country. Across the valley, special events are planned along with speakers, flyovers and bagpipes. (KTVB)
  2. If you live outside the city limits in Ada County, selling a glass of wine or a mug of beer is unlike anywhere else in Idaho. In Ada County only, 75 percent of neighbors need to agree if a business owner wishes to sell beer or wine and this ordinance has now created a dispute in Eagle. BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel was present when arguments became heated over a proposed winery hoping to open a tasting room. Commissioners made no decision, opting instead to sending a state commission out to perform "public outreach." (BoiseDev)
  3. Boating season has not even started and low water has already closed a local boat ramp. KIVI-TV's Kelsie Rose reports the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Barclay Bay will be closed this summer due to low water. The area will be open for vehicle and trailer parking. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
  4. The College of Western Idaho will join with the Boise Hawks for CWI Night at the ballpark on Thursday, June 16. Half the cost of each ticket sold will go to the CWI scholarship fund and two students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships at the game. (Boise Patch)
  5. A Boise man will spend at least the next 20 years in prison after sentencing occurred for possessing child pornography, sexual battery and stalking teen girls. CBS2 news staff report Kyle C. Baxter was sentenced Wednesday to 35 years in prison with a minimum of 20 years before he is parole eligible. Baxter stalked teenage girls at numerous parks in Ada County, grabbing one of the girls. When arrested, law enforcement found hundreds of sexually explicit pictures and videos of minors in his possession. (idahonews)
