Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. A Meridian man spent Christmas in jail after attacking a Meridian police officer. CBS2 news staff report Trevor Dyer attacked the officer, punching him multiple times in the face. When additional officers arrived, Dyer was placed unconscious using a carotid neck restraint. The officer was taken to St. Alphonsus where he was treated for serious facial injuries. Two additional victims were also hospitalized. (Idaho News)
  2. Looking at the approximately 24,000 students at Boise State University studying hard and working towards a degree, less than five students are enrolled in ethnic studies. Compare that number of the over 1,100 enrolled in the school's nursing program. The Arbiter's Elise Ledesma examines the misconceptions around a program "sometimes misinterpreted to be a liberal program on campuses." (arbiteronline)

  4. Smoke detectors alerted residents to get out of a house early Monday morning. KTVB-TV staff report the Boise Fire Department was called out to a residence on W. Packsaddle Ct. at 1 a.m. in the morning. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. (KTVB)
  5. The weather in Boise is miserable, flights are canceled and school break is full force. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart offers eight fun, family friendly events to take advantage of this week. (liteonline)
