Here are the top three stories today in Boise:

  1. Gwendolyn Margaret Brunelle, a 27-year-old woman from Boise, has been missing since leaving for a road trip a week ago. Her car, a gray 2008 Honda Element with Idaho license plate 5WT6X, was found on Succor Creek Road in Malheur County, Oregon. Multiple rescue teams and authorities, including Malheur County Search and Rescue, Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue, and local volunteers, are conducting an extensive search operation on foot and horseback, and using drones, dogs, and UTVs. Brunelle's family and friends suspect she may have wandered away from the vehicle or potentially been abducted, and they have urged anyone with information to contact the Boise Police or the Malheur County Sheriff's Office. (KTVB 7)
  2. After 16 years with KTVB Idaho's News Channel 7, Doug Petcash has announced his departure later this summer for a new job in Ohio. Petcash initially joined KTVB as the morning news co-anchor in 2007 and went on to work alongside co-anchor Maggie O'Mara and meteorologist Larry Gebert. During his tenure, he received multiple awards, including Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and Emmys. Petcash is known for his calm and confident style in presenting the news and his strong connection with the people of Idaho through community service and his musical performances. (KTVB 7)
  3. The 2023 float season has commenced on the Boise River, attracting people seeking relief from the summer heat. However, officials from Flood District #10 are warning floaters about potential hazards and the need for personal responsibility and safety precautions. Lesser-known sections of the river may contain unforeseen dangers such as downed trees, hidden sharp objects, and irrigation diversions, prompting officials to advise floaters to scout unfamiliar areas and be prepared to portage around hazards if necessary. They also emphasize the importance of wearing personal floatation devices (PFDs) and being aware of the frigid water temperatures that could lead to hypothermia or drowning. (Idaho 2 News)
