Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. Hot dry temperatures and a little bit of wind and the local fire season is off and running. KIVI-TV's Meredith Spelbring reports on a Monday afternoon fire near homes off Lake Hazel Road. Boise Fire Department reports the grass fire burned 27 acres before containment. Winds of 10-15 mph moved the blaze quickly. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
  2. Lobbying or negative campaigning? Legal or skirting Idaho law? The Idaho Capital Sun's Kelcie Mosely-Morris writes an extensive article looking at the actions of a few Idaho groups prior to the May primary. The groups, using Facebook and Google ads and mass texting, fall within Idaho's complicated language according to Idaho's deputy secretary of state while spending thousands of dollars targeting certain legislators. According to the article, don't expect things to change soon as politicians are wary of rocking this boat. (idahocapitalsun)
  3. Ashley Hammond has a new job in the downtown branch of the Boise Library! Hammond is not checking out books or heading out to the book return bin in the parking lot but is the city's first-ever mental health coordinator for the library. Boise State Public Radio's George Prentice sits down with Hammond and library director Jessica Door to discuss the need for a mental health professional at the downtown location. (Boise State Public Radio)
  4. The weather is heating up around Boise, but the job market is even hotter. Boise Patch brings to you the newest jobs out there with employers possible looking for someone just like you. (Boise Patch)
  5. Candidates have not even picked up yard signs from the May primary and Boise is facing another election in September. Monday marked the first day those wanting to be Boise School Board trustees could file for five open spots. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert breaks down why, for Boise, school board elections are not held during the May primary or the November election. Richert also explains why, because of recent appointments, five slots are open for the upcoming Sept. 6 election day. (Idaho EdNews)
