Welcome to the weekend Boise Daily followers. The Boise Police Department announced a new deputy chief, and a new business owner in Garden City wants a seat on the city council. Spraying for those pesky mosquitoes is about to get underway while an animal rescue center has cats galore for adoption. Finally, for all nerds and want-to-be nerds, Boise hosts a comic festival this weekend.

  1. A former police chief of a California town has been hired by the Boise Police to take over the duties of deputy chief. (Boise Patch)

In 1864, the city of Boise, Idaho was made the territorial capital, and a municipal government was formed. John Ward became the first law enforcement marshal. The Boise Police Department was officially started in 1903; it consisted of a chief of police, a police sergeant, and seven police officers.
