Up and at 'em, Boise! Let's get this Friday, Sept. 17 started. Here's what's happening around town today.

The Boise Daily is here to start your weekend off right. To start with some news not happening, no drowning took place in the Boise River. A local news source has announced plans to disallow comments on stories involving COVID-19 while a group of legislators gathered to discuss the vaccine. Stories abound from our local murder house, and university students, hungry and angry, are taking steps against a food service provider on campus.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. The story was all over Facebook on Wednesday, but now, Boise Police and Fire report no drowning took place in the Boise River. CBS2-TV staff report divers and drones were used in the search, but authorities now believe no incident occurred. (Idaho News)
  2. In an announcement on Thursday, BoiseDev editor Don Day stated all further stories posted related to COVID-19 will do so with comments turned off. Day said "the dialogue is *rarely* productive, and ensuring that folks are keeping to our fairly basic rules is a time drain for myself and my team."
  3. Posted on KTVB-TV, but written by Ryan Suppe of the Idaho Press, 13 lawmakers gathered on the state capital steps to call for legislation banning vaccine mandates in Idaho. The group is asking the Legislature to reconvene and was joined by Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin. (KTVB.com)
  4. Today may be a little early for a Halloween story, but 107.9-FM and Michelle Heart reached out and received stories from Boise residents of the "Murder House" located on West Linden. (liteonline.com)
  5. Boise State University students are hungry and not happy with the closure and limited hours offered by the campus food service provider. The Arbiter's Taylor Humby reports the university students are seeking damages against Aramark for breach of contract. (Boise State University The Arbiter Online)

  • Join Golden Eagle Audubon for a visit to Intermountain Bird Observatory's Boise River Research Station aka Diane Moore Nature Center. We will look for migrating and resident birds in this prime riparian habitat, visit the banding station, discuss the restoration efforts and observe the developing Boise River side channel restoration project. Be prepared to cover up to two miles walking on dirt, deep gravel and sandy trails not appropriate for wheelchairs or other mobility devices. (8 a.m.)
  • Lupus is a difficult and painful disease, still a mystery to doctors and scientists. The research continues, but funding is needed to accelerate progress.
