Pursuit Ends In Death Of Suspect

A pursuit beginning in Caldwell and ending outside Meridian ended with the suspect shooting himself after an extended standoff.

BOISE, ID — An incident beginning with a domestic assault call in Caldwell ended with the death of the suspect outside Meridian on Wednesday, April 14.

The male suspect led Caldwell police on a pursuit, crossing into Ada County. As Meridian police attempted to place spike strips on the roadway to stop the pursuit, the suspect is reported to have pointed a gun at the officers.

A Meridian police officer performed a PIT manuver on the vehicle, ending the chase at 2 p.m. Law enoforcement then started negotiations with the suspect seated inside the car.

During the standoff, both flash bangs and gas were used in an attempt to remove the suspect from the car. After three hours, the suspect shot himself as officers approached the vehicle. Two guns were found in the car.

The Boise Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident which closed Chinden Blvd. until 9:30 p.m.
