🌱 Record August Heat + Record Mantle Card + Goathead Festival
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Hello all. It's me, John Braese, your host of the Daily. Here's all the local news you need to know right now.
Our readers continue to let us know their views on our stories. In response to our recent story on a proposed casino near Mountain Home, Diane made her feelings very clear by responding, "Casino! It's about time!!"
Our reader question of the day centers around our second story. Is there a childhood toy or article lost to you now worth hundreds, thousands or more dollars? Did you have a Mantle card or an original Barbie? For me, there was a large collection of Matchbox and Hot Wheel cars that mysteriously disappeared when my mother passed.

Welcome to the Monday edition of the Boise Daily. August will set a record not many of us want to celebrate. Someone put down some heavy cash for a baseball card and take a look at some court pictures of Lori Vallow Daybell. There are fewer goatheads in Boise waiting for your bicycle tires and you can know most every state agency's board meetings with a few clicks of your keyboard.
First, today's weather:

📢 I’m looking for business owners and marketers in Boise who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Boise Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that’s you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Just a few more days and August will be a memory. KTVB's Bri Eggers reports for Boise residents, this month will be remembered as really hot. The August of 2022 will go down in the record books as the warmest August since records were started in 1875. With just a few days left, our entire summer could also hit the record books due to the heat. (KTVB.com)
- This next Monday story may have you checking your parent's attic or pulling out old boxes from your youth. The Oregonian carries an Associated Press story of a Sunday sale of a mint Mickey Mantle card for $12.6 million, a record amount paid for sports memorabilia. Just a few months ago, a jersey worn by Diego Maradona in the 1986 World Cup championship game garnered $9.3 million. If you are sitting today, reading this story with your first cup of coffee and you recall that card you had in your hand at 8-year-old...relax and take an additional sip while looking at the electric bill from our hottest August on record. (oregonlive)
- The Boise Daily almost let a week slip by without our update on the Lori Vallow Daybell ongoing murder case. Courtesy of staff from the East Idaho News, grab a look at numerous pictures from Vallow Daybell's recent court hearing where the defendant's lawyer requested a grand jury be reconvened to clarify language on the charges Vallow Daybell faces. (eastidahonews)
- Even if you were not an attendee of this past weekend's Boise Goathead Festival, you hopefully took a few minutes out of your busy schedule to stoop down, grab and dispose of a few of the sharpened scourge of bicycle tires and dog's paws. CBS2's Luke Randle was in attendance as Boise's bicycling community gathered with a goal of collecting and disposing of 10,000 pounds of goatheads. Information was also available on controlling invasive species, including puncture vine. (idahonews)
- Boise residents like to be involved and have a voice. One problem is knowing when meetings occur. The Idaho Capital Sun's Christina Lords informs us Idaho residents can now subscribe to Townhall.Idaho.Gov and receive notifications for public meetings of almost 200 Idaho agencies, boards and commissions. You will also be able to "use a keyword search, copy meetings to your online calendar and use a text reader to find information in documents related to public meetings." (idahocapitalsun)
