Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. A band of sheep seen grazing by many local residents in the Boise Foothills have been attacked by two wolves. CBS2 staff report 143 sheep are dead after two wolves chased the sheep into a steep gully where they piled up and died. The incident took place near Shaw Mountain, a popular recreation spot for Boise hikers and trail riders. (idahonews)
  2. Idaho charter schools received over $81 million in private financing last year with a Garden City charter picking up over $9 million for a new facility. IdahoEdNews reporter Devin Bodkin looked into a report by investment bank Piper Sandler and found nine Idaho charter schools went out and were approved for private loans for school construction. A Garden City charter, Future Public School, received over $9 million for a new building. Future Public School focuses on preparing students for careers in the engineering field. A second valley school, Gem Prep Meridian South, picked up over $10 million in bonds for a new facility. Unlike the typical public school bonds, charter schools bonds are private loans, paid back by the schools, not district landowners. (idahoednews)
  3. Sometimes a week is just tough. For many, a trip to Alive After Five on a Wednesday is just the kick to make it to Friday. The Boise Weekly's Tracy Bringhurst announces the community concert and gathering is back for a 35th year starting June 15 with a new lineup of bands in downtown Boise. (boiseweekly)
  4. In 2018, Timmy Kinner entered a child's birthday party in Boise and started stabbing the small children in attendance, killing the 3-year-old birthday girl, Ruya Kadir. After a series of legal battles, Kinner was sentenced to two fixed life sentences without possibility of parole with an additional 120 years in prison in June 2021. KTVB-TV staff have now confirmed Kinney has been moved out of an Idaho prison to an unnamed out-of-state facility "to assure his safety and the safety of others." (ktvb)
  5. The budget year for Ada County is quickly approaching and county commissioners are asking for the public's input on where your tax dollars are being spent. Boise Patch has the information needed on how you can voice your concerns on the new budget and how you can testify in person. (BoisePatch)

Are you a Boise resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
