T-Mobile Confirms Investigation Of Data Hack

A hacker is attempting to sell information from 100 million customers according to reports.

BOISE, ID — After reports from multiple news agencies, T-Mobile confirmed Sunday the company is investigating a claim on an online forum of account information from over 100 million customers for sale.

The incident first came to light after a hacker appeared in a forum claiming to offer for sale data that includes names, Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers and drivers license information. The data was confirmed to be information from T-Mobile customers.

The hacker said T-Mobile had regained control of the servers, but the data had already been downloaded.

“We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity,” a T-Mobile spokesperson said in an email Sunday. “We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”

If true, the breach would affect nearly every customer in the United States. T-Mobile has a call center in Boise, employing hundreds.
