Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Monday marked day one for the Boise trial of Lori Vallow Daybell. EastIdahoNews reporter Nate Easton has made the trip from eastern Idaho to continue his coverage of the case and is supplying live updates on day one, selecting a jury. One potential juror had an order to report to the U.S. Navy while another works for the Ada County Sheriff's Office. Potential jurors were asked if they watch CSI, the television show. Potential jurors were also questioned about their religious beliefs. (eastidahonews)
- An Idaho CDL skills tester for over 20 years has admitted to receiving over $38,000 in bribes. KTVB-TV staff report Kelly Nathaniel Goodman, 71, of Gooding, Idaho, pleaded guilty to honest services wire fraud. Goodman had over 20 years as a CDL skills tester for the Idaho Department of Transportation. In sentencing on June 22, Goodman faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. (KTVB.com)
- One in every eight children in Idaho will be a victim of sexual abuse according to one organization. CBS2 news staff report the number comes from a study conducted by the Idaho Children’s Trust Fund. The group is urging prevention rather than penalties for offenders. (Idaho News)
- Ann Morrison Park is well known as the spot to disembark from tubing the Boise River or playing a round of frisbee golf. For residents living closest to the park, the Boise Bench, access to the park is limited to walking one of two sidewalks along busy streets. BoiseDev editor Don Day reports a plan is now in place for a new stairway connection for Peasley Street, which would allow Bench dwellers to walk down from the Bench at Crescent Rim and enter the park near the softball fields. - On any day, an average of 1,013 people sit in the Ada County Jail. Boise Patch reports the largest jail in the state now has a new online dashboard. Updated daily, the new service allows residents to see what kinds of charges persons are being held on, and age and gender information. The site will also show if dorms are over capacity and new detainees are sleeping on the floor. (Boise Patch)
