🌱 Vallow/Daybell Update + Lucky Peak Boat + Bogus Basin Jobs
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Happy Saturday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.
Welcome to the Saturday edition of the Boise Daily. We start with our weekly update on the Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell cases. Prosecutors are asking for the two cases be combined. Along with housing highly prized in Boise, apparently burial plots are also in high demand for the future. A Boise boat owner finally was able to get aboard his Bayliner after 9 months and our local area may see a familiar face in the sheriff's office. For the upcoming summer, you do not need to be a skier to work at Bogus Basin.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Timing is everything. As we promised you, each week we provide an update on the ongoing Chad Daybell and is his wife, Lori Vallow Daybell cases. Both the defendants, attorneys and prosecutors are now waiting for a written decision by Judge Steven Boyce to delay Lori's trial until January so the two can be tried together. Chad and Lori Daybell are charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder for the deaths of 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan — two of Lori’s kids — and Chad’s first wife, Tammy Daybell. Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty in both cases. The Boise Daily stays with East Idaho News reporter Nate Easton and his article regarding the court proceedings on Thursday, May 19. Prosecutors argued witnesses and evidence will be the same and joining the two trials will be more cost-effective. (eastidahonews)
- According to a Boise official, a lot of you are thinking of dying. Boise State Public Radio's George Prentice reports Boise Parks and Recreation Superintendent Karen Bledsoe recently told commissioners the number of people securing spots in local cemeteries is breaking records and the trend is for future burials, not current internments. The Boise Daily will forgo the pun, "dying to get in". (Boise State Public Radio)
- In a story receiving quite a few comments on social media, KTVB-TV's Joe Parris speaks with a boat owner who has now retrieved his vessel at Lucky Peak after 9 months of sitting high and dry. Owner Gene Saldana stated his boat was in the water as he went to bed one night, but awoke to find the level at Lucky Peak had dropped overnight. When he returned this week to find his boat after 9 months sitting in the dirt, vandals had stripped the craft of most everything. (KTVB.com)
- It now appears there may not be a new sheriff in town. CBS2 news staff report current Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford was the top vote receiver in Tuesday's primary on the Republican ticket with a little over 41,000 votes. Clifford was appointed sheriff in 2021 and will now face Democratic opponent Victor McRaw in the November general election. (idahonews)
- Ski season is over and Bogus Basin is looking for employees? This is not a rumor as KIDO-AM's Mateo reports the the local ski area if seeking lift operators, baristas, cashiers and other positions for their summer activities. The story even has a link to apply and those as young as 15-years-old are welcome. One perk to the job is free transportation up the hill. (kidotalkradio)

From my notebook:
- Boise Weekly: "The sunlight that is The Idaho Shakespeare Festival is back, in all its glory, for the first time since 2019. The 2022 season of the festival has a full line-up of plays that range from classic to modern — and there’s even a musical." (Instagram)
- Idaho Humane Society: "Last week, 117 animals joined their forever homes: 49 dogs, 65 cats, 2 rabbits and 1 guinea pig. Nika (in the middle) is a total cuddle bug. She loves to be in people’s laps and snuggle. She also enjoys playing with all sorts of toys." (Facebook)
- Boise Fire Department: "One of Boise Fire’s first units, Old 13, from 1927 had a fun time with all of you at the State of the City last night! Thanks for stopping by and taking pictures!" (Facebook)
- Boise State Public Radio: "Rediscovered Books will prioritize handing books out to students and staff members of the Nampa School District, but Nampa residents can also receive one book." (Facebook)
- Boise's Best Bites!: "I’m so excited for the new Iron Chef series on Netflix. I’ve got to work with two of the first season’s Iron Chef’s: @curtisstone and @marcuscooks. Both very great chefs and super personable. The season starts streaming June 15." (Instagram)
