Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Charges have been dropped against a Fruitland woman in connection with the disappearance of Fruitland boy Michael Vaughn. CBS2 news staff report Sarah Wondra no longer faces charges of failure to report a death after the Payette County prosecutor asked the court to drop all the charges. Wondra was arrested last year, and her property searched in connection with the disappearance of Vaughn. Wondra was originally deemed unfit to stand trial and committed to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare for some time. (idahonews)
- The man suspected of shooting and killing Nyssa Police Department reserve officer Joseph Johnson was arrested in Ontario, Oregon, Monday morning. KTVB-TV's Abby Davis reports police have arrested Rene Castro, 36, Monday after work by law enforcement in Oregon and Idaho, including the FBI. (ktvb)
- We are only four months into 2023 and the news continues with businesses closing in the Boise area. Instead of the negative, LITE-FM's Michelle Heart looks at the positive and the businesses opened in Boise in the new year. Have you ordered a slice at Pieology or ordered a lobster roll at Freshies? Maybe you have raced at K1 Speed or caught a movie at the BoDo Cinema? (107.9 LITE FM)
- Samspon won't take much room at your house as he a miniature dachshund. Junie is great with kids and other dogs. Ryder's picture shows he looks great in a scarf. Boise Patch is pleased to offer these and many more pets looking for new owners. (Boise Patch)
- After the death of a 14-year-old cyclist, Boise Hunter Homes, Dry Creek Ranch’s developer, is being urged to accelerate trail construction found in the community's original plans. BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel writes members of the cycling community in Eagle, Eagle Mayor Jason Pierce, and the Ada County Commissioners are asking the trail network laid out in Dry Creek Ranch’s master plan a reality sooner rather than later. This comes after Rylan Hoob was hit by a truck on the corner of Idaho Highway 55 and Beacon Light Road as he was making his way down to meet his friends for a few laps around the park on Oct. 21, 2022.
