Walmart Removing Plastic Bags
Shoppers in the Boise stores will soon need to have an alternative to grabbing a plastic bag at the check out.

BOISE, ID — Boise shoppers do it on a daily basis. Pop off the freeway, roll into the Overland Walmart, grab a few items, stuff them into the plastic bag and head home.
The process will soon change as the giant retailor has announced the phasing out of all plastic bags over the next few months.

Americans use 100 billion plastic bags each year. Less than 10% of these bags are recycled with the the remaining ending up in landfills, stuck in trees or used in the home to store excess stuffed animals.
Last summer, the Walmart announced its goal to be a zero-waste company—meaning no more plastic bags. The company also announced a challenge for innovators to create a solution. Nine winners were named with these ideas now being tested.

Whatever the outcome of the ideas, one thing is set-plastic bags at the register at Walmart will soon be a thing of the past.
