- The 32nd Annual Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race, sponsored by the Idaho Falls Rotary Club, is taking place in Idaho Falls at the Development Workshop Inc. (DWI). Over 20,000 ducks are being prepared for the race by DWI clients, who are cleaning and adding new ID stickers. DWI, a nonprofit organization, assists individuals with disabilities or disadvantages in achieving economic and social independence. The race is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 12, and is a significant event for DWI. (Local News 8)
- The Idaho Falls City Council has unanimously approved a tentative budget for the fiscal year 2024, not to exceed $339,533,522. The budget includes $72,490,610 for the General Fund, covering various departments like police, fire, parks, and more. The preliminary budget will undergo a public hearing on Aug. 10, with possible changes based on feedback before adoption on Aug. 24. (Post Register)
- Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies, Swan Valley Fire, and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded to an overturned drift boat incident near the Snake River Bridge at Spring Creek. The boat had capsized, pinning a dog named "Finn" against a cement pylon, while two individuals were found floating downstream without life jackets. The occupants were rescued by another drift boat and remained uninjured, while deputies managed to free the dog and highlight the importance of wearing life jackets and understanding river conditions when engaging in water recreation.
