Prosecutor dismisses charges of kidnapping a baby against BYU-Idaho student (rexburgstandardjournal.com) — Bonneville County’s top prosecutor has dropped the kidnapping charge against a BYU-Idaho student after new Costco surveillance video showed no clear intent to steal a baby from an Idaho Falls shopping cart. Idaho Falls Police and prosecutors say the case demonstrates how ongoing evidence review works, while the baby’s mother describes how the incident has deeply affected her but accepts the legal outcome.
   

2. Local club donates $1,000 to K9 Heroes Foundation (eastidahonews.com) — An Idaho Falls Exchange Club donation of $1,000 is helping the K9 Heroes Foundation fund therapy dog K9 Stryder’s work with students in Bonneville School District 93. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office says support like this expands therapy K9 services in local schools and even the county jail, aiding children and adults with special needs and behavioral health challenges.
   

3. A Message of Light in the Darkness: Idaho Falls community Celebrates first night of Hanukkah (localnews8.com) — Idaho Falls residents joined Chabad Lubavitch of Idaho on Sunday for a packed Hanukkah celebration at the Shilo Inn’s Snake River Convention Center, where Mayor‑elect Lisa Burtenshaw lit the shamash candle. Rabbi Zali Lifshitz urged the growing local Jewish community to respond to rising antisemitism worldwide by proudly displaying their faith and increasing acts of kindness throughout Idaho Falls and surrounding areas.
   

4. Groundbreaking water treatment system sees first real-world use (eastidahonews.com) — Idaho Falls-based researchers at Idaho National Laboratory are helping test a new desalination system that’s now running in a California pistachio orchard, turning salty groundwater into usable water. Their dimethyl ether-based technology could lower costs, reduce waste, and even create new revenue streams from both clean water and recovered minerals, with more pilot projects and permanent systems planned.
