1. ISP K-9s certified in new scent as ongoing effort to fight fentanyl (rexburgstandardjournal.com) — Idaho Falls residents should know Idaho State Police K-9s statewide are now fully certified to detect fentanyl, adding to their existing drug-detection abilities. The enhanced training, supported by handlers carrying Narcan for people and dogs, aims to better intercept dangerous opioids and protect communities across Idaho, including eastern Idaho.
   

2. Idaho Farm Bureau elects Dorsey president (capitalpress.com) — An Idaho Falls farmer, Doug Barrie, has been elected vice president of the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation, giving local agriculture a stronger voice in statewide decisions. He’ll serve alongside new president Matt Dorsey as the group pushes for easier direct-to-consumer farm sales and more state funding to improve traffic safety on rural highways important to producers.
   

3. ISU President Wagner Hosts Holiday Open House (localnews8.com) — Idaho Falls residents connected to Idaho State University can look forward to upcoming holiday parties at the ISU Idaho Falls campus as part of the school’s end-of-semester celebrations. ISU President Robert Wagner just hosted a similar open house in Pocatello, highlighting rising enrollment, strong student performances, and the role faculty and staff play in serving communities across Idaho.
   

4. Energy secretary touts nuclear power in visit to INL (postregister.com) — Idaho Falls played a key role in this week’s visit by U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who held a town hall with INL employees at the city’s Research and Education Campus. Wright, joined by Gov. Brad Little and Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho Falls, promoted the Trump administration’s aggressive push to rapidly expand nuclear power and highlighted INL’s central role in next‑generation reactors and AI-driven nuclear innovation.
