  1. The City of Idaho Falls is considering the removal of traffic signals at two downtown intersections, Park Avenue and E. Street, and Yellowstone Avenue and Cliff Street, due to lower traffic volumes that don't justify the signals. They will be holding a public meeting on Aug. 1 at the Idaho Falls Public Library for community members to discuss the project and explore alternatives, including replacing the signal at Yellowstone Avenue and Cliff Street with a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon for safer pedestrian crossings. The city welcomes written comments sent by email to ifeng@idahofalls.gov until Aug. 11 for those who cannot attend the meeting. (East Idaho News)
  2. The City of Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual "Kids Tri Harder Triathlon" on Aug. 12, encouraging children aged 3-13 to try the sport of triathlon. The event will take place at Wes Deist Aquatic Center, featuring swimming, biking, and running on the outdoor course. Participants will receive a swag bag from the business community, a finishing medal, and a breakfast provided by Smith Chevrolet. Registration for the triathlon is available for $25.00 here. 3. On Jul. 27, at around 6:18 a.m., the Idaho State Police responded to a fatal four-vehicle crash on U.S. 20 near mile marker 286.5, west of Idaho Falls. A Dodge Journey driven by a 25-year-old woman crossed the center line, causing a collision with a westbound Dodge Charger, Nissan Sentra, and Ford F-150. The drivers of the Journey and the Sentra tragically lost their lives at the crash scene, while the drivers of the Charger and F-150, along with two juveniles from the Journey, were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. (Idaho News)
