- The Idaho Falls Zoo shared the sad news that their Bactrian camel calf, Humphrey, had to be euthanized due to an infection in his leg bone following surgery for a broken leg caused by a possible accidental step from his mother. Despite initial positive responses to treatment, the infection led to the difficult decision to put him down after consultations with various veterinarians. The zoo expressed their grief and mentioned that the separation of Humphrey and his mother was managed well, and they asked for support and thoughts for their dedicated staff during this emotional period. - Christopher Allen Rhondeau, a 34-year-old man from Idaho Falls, was arrested for allegedly stealing items from a woman's car, including Bluetooth speakers and LED tape lights, while she briefly stepped away. He is accused of also using her phone to send himself $235 via Cash App without her consent. Rhondeau faces charges of felony computer crime and misdemeanor petit theft, and he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 11. (East Idaho News)
- The ongoing road construction at the intersection of 17th and Woodruff has not only caused traffic delays and road repaving but has also significantly impacted local businesses. The road closures and changing detours have made it challenging for customers to access stores, leading to decreased sales for businesses like Red Clover and Gandolfo's. Despite efforts by construction crews and the city to provide directions and maps, small family-owned businesses are facing considerable difficulties, with Red Clover expressing concerns about its long-term viability, while Gandolfo's acknowledges the struggle despite some customer traffic.
