IL Gas Prices Up Slightly, But Lower Than Last Year

In one county, gas prices averaged only $3.08 per gallon.

Gas prices in Illinois are up slightly compared to last month, but down year-over-year.

The statewide average price per gallon on Thursday was $3.49 compared to $3.44 a month earlier, according to the American Automobile Association. A year ago, prices in the Prairie State were higher, averaging $3.63 per gallon.

The most expensive place in Illinois to fill up the tank on Thursday was in Cook County, where the average price per gallon was $3.75, a significant difference compared to the county with the cheapest gas, which was downstate Effingham County, where gas was averaging $3.08 per gallon, according to AAA.

Nationwide on Thursday, gas averaged $3.20 per gallon.
