ILLINOIS — AMC Theaters has announced it will be offering a new summer discount aimed to make movie-going more affordable in Illinois.

Starting July 9, AMC Theatres will offer a 50 percent discount off the regular adult-evening ticket price every Wednesday. There's one catch: to get the deal, you need to sign up to be a member of the AMC Stubs program. Don't worry, it's free.

The discount covers the base ticket price. You can expect to pay surcharges for premium formats, including IMAX.

The new initiative is designed to "is designed to make moviegoing more affordable than ever," the company said in an announcement.

Certain movies and holiday time periods may be excluded from the 50 percent off program, the company said. "It is envisioned that if successful, this new AMC pricing initiative will be almost universally available at all AMC Theatres in the United States going forward."

"Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery. But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming, and the remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box office trend," AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron said in a media announcement.

Guests who are not currently AMC Stubs members can sign up to be AMC Stubs Insider members for free through the AMC mobile app, website, or at their local theater.
