With the Year of the Snake, the city will celebrate a new speakeasy-style bar and a beloved sushi restaurant that moved to a new location.

AURORA, IL — The City of Aurora will not only be celebrating the Year of the Snake on Tuesday, but elected officials will also welcome two new businesses with ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

Aurora will roll out the red carpet to celebrate Lunar New Year at 10 a.m. Tuesday at North Island Center, 8 E. Galena Blvd. The event will feature speeches from Chinese and Asian American leaders, dragon and lion dances, and an awards ceremony honoring residents and businesses.

From there, staff and elected officials will cut the ribbon for two new restaurants: Sushi Plus Rotary Sushi Bar and Forbidden City.

Sushi Rotary will kick off the ceremonies at 1 p.m. After 12 years on Fox Valley Center Drive, the restaurant moved across the street to a bigger location in Pacifica Square.

Located at 4302 E. New York St., the sushi bar has two full-service rotary bars, high-tech delivery vehicles on raised tracks and "the same incredible team serving up the sushi you love."

A few hours later, at 4:30 p.m., city officials will usher in a new "hidden gem." Forbidden City is a cocktail bar on the lower level of Leilani Asian Fusion in downtown Aurora. Officials described it as an "exclusive escape" featuring cocktails, live entertainment and themed nights.
