AURORA, IL — Aurora residents' love for their local K-9 troopers has paid off. The Aurora K-9 team was recently ranked 5th place in a contest that yielded them $1,500 in grants.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by Aftermath, was based on a voting system, which had members of the Aurora Police Department and fans of their K-9s taking to social media to round up votes. In total, more than 480,000 votes were casts among the competing dogs.

Aftermath has been providing grants to support K-9 teams for the better part of a decade, according to its website. The funds are used to help police departments build and maintain their K-9 units.
