Aurora Literacy Center Hoping To Raise $10K On Giving Tuesday

A $100 donation would allow the Dominican Literacy Center to buy books and tutor a student for a full year.

AURORA, IL — The Dominican Literacy Center is counting on a successful Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign so it can continue its mission to help Aurora-area women and their families learn English.

The nonprofit at St. Therese Catholic Church is hoping to raise $10,000 on Giving Tuesday, a 24-hour fundraising bonanza for nonprofits and charities scheduled for Dec. 1 this year. The nonprofit raised more than $13,000 during Giving Tuesday 2019, according to a news release.

The Dominican Literacy Center is seeking donations of any amount, with Sister Kathleen Ryan noting a $100 donation would allow the center to buy books and tutor one person for a full year.

“Donations will help us provides CDs, ESL and other library books, and computer software for women striving to read, write and speak English,” Ryan said in the release.

The center has tutored more than 2,000 residents since its founding in 1993, offering free English classes to about 150 immigrant women each year, as well as free citizenship classes for men and women, the release states.

The Dominican Literacy Center is accepting donations through its website or on its Facebook page.
